How To Prevent Chigger Bites.

If preventing chigger bites fails you then you need to know:

How To Treat Chigger Bites

Ticks and chiggers. Almost every woodsman want to know how to prevent chigger bites even more than tick bites. Why, you may ask. If you are asking you have not had the dubious pleasure of having gotten a good infestation of chigger bites.

If there are two things most woodsmen hate it is ticks and chiggers. Of course there could be occasional leach if you fall into some nasty pond or swamp. And there are some seriously nasty biting flies and some mosquitoes, but nothing lasts as long or is as nasty a case of chiggers and seed ticks. chigger bite image

Ticks and chiggers are the terror of the woodsman. Ticks can be seen and removed rather quickly after their attachment, if you paying attention. if ticks do get a good hold on you, that is his head is buried into your flesh do not try to pull him out and do not try to brush him off.

A Q-tip dipped into liquid detergent, put on him and held for a few moments and he will back out all by himself. Such not the luxury of getting rid of chiggers. You see, chiggers are only about 150th of an inch big. Hardly the thing you will be able to see to to dob off.

What most do not know about chiggers, is they do not bore into the skin and they do no suck blood. However, chiggers do bite, then they puke into the bite an enzyme that melts or rots the flesh, which is then sucked up. The good news they do not eat much. The bad news is the bodies reaction is one horrendous itch that can last for two weeks or longer.

The other good news is most chiggers are knocked off long before they can do any damage. The main trust of this article is to teach you how to prevent chigger bites.

A lot of folks take pretty good precautions when in the woods in preventing chigger bites by following a few simple rules, such as;

  • Wearing protective clothing
  • Applying a repellent, natural or toxic DEET products
  • Avoiding areas likely inhabited by chiggers and ticks
  • Dusting themselves off every little while, dislodging any or most hitch hikers

However, is from this point on most neglect or abandon their preventive measures and get into trouble with chigger bites because of it. It is just as important to;

  • Dust yourself off before getting back into your car when leaving
  • Getting rid of your clothes when you get home, before scattering whatever chiggers may still be attached around the house
  • Washing contaminated clothes in hot water with bleach and soap
  • Drying clothes on high heat or hanging outdoors in the direct sunlight away from anyplace chiggers can get to them
  • Taking a hot shower/bath with soap and wash cloth or exfoliating scrub
  • Noticing any itching sensation when it first starts and applying proper chigger treatment

And this not to mention anything about pets. If you pets, they get chiggers also if they are outside and into areas where chiggers live.

And there are some serious misconceptions about how to get rid of chigger bites. There are some things that simply do not work and some are simply dangerous to your health chigger bites imageand well being, such as;

  • Nail polish does not work
  • Kerosene does not work directly or in bath water
  • Bleach does not work, as above
  • Alcohol does not work
  • Anti-itch creams do not work more than a few minutes
  • Not scratching does not work, if you can even not do it
  • Antihistamines do not work
  • Gas, matches and the ice pick trick does not work on chiggers any more than it does on crabs

So, what does work to get rid of chigger bites? There are some thing which may have some merit, such as;

Those are three things the author has heard of but has no experience to relate or comment on. However, that being said there is a remedy for chigger bites that does work and it does work fast and permanently.  If you want to know how to treat chigger bites then follow this link to get the cure for chiggers. Download it and be using it in minutes from now.

If you are reading this you undoubtedly want to know about a chigger treatment. That is how to stop or prevent chiggers wicked, mean, nasty any by all means not over rated by any stretch of the imagination, itch.

A body may perhaps tell you chiggers are also known as harvest mite, red bugs (not to be confused with bed bugs) and perhaps a few unmentionables. But what do you care about what they are called. You are not here to get a biology report on chiggers.

However, it may prove to be advantageous to know chiggers do not bore under the skin and live there till they die. If you know chiggers only fasten to your skin during the process of their feeding you will know it is easier to get rid of them than you thought.

Avoiding chiggers is without a doubt the easiest and most effectual way of avoiding bites, therefore having to go looking for an effective anti itch treatment.

Chiggers have a special habitation they like to hang out in. They love the woods and shaded areas that are warm. Like wood piles and leaf piles or other heaps of organic substance in the process of producing heat during decay.

They also like to hang out on undergrowth of brush and the tall grass of meadows and fields, waiting for their host to come marching by, so they can rub off or drop on them.

So clearly it is to your advantage to avoid these areas if possible. If you are hiking try to stay on trails and away from overhanging grass and branches.

While you are in the woods it is advisable to wear protective clothing. Wear boots and tuck your britches inside of them. Wear light colored clothes with tight weave, but not close-fitting. If you do not have boots, tuck your pants inside of your socks.

If you are with someone employ what the army calls the buddy system. Stop every little while and brush each other off. It takes chiggers a while to find an opening into your body, so a good thorough brush off every couple of hours will help to keep yourself shucked of them.

If you are driving back home, before entering your vehicle, again do a brush off to keep as many chiggers as possible from entering your vehicle with you. If you have cloth upholstery they will live in there waiting for your return. Remember, prevention is the best chigger treatment known.

When you get home, get your clothes into a nice hot wash with lots of soap and bleach ahead of going anywhere or doing anything. The idea is keep the chiggers isolated to only a small area, not depositing them all through out the house.

Then get yourself into a nice hot shower with soap and a good scrubber cloth or exfoliating sponge and do an all over good job of rubbing your body down to displace any little hitch hikers.

If you prefer a bath do not use any sort of chemicals such as bleach, but do use the scrubbing method described above.

If you are one of those who really do not think about or believe that what you put on your body is the equivalent of putting into your body then by all means use whatever chemicals you like to prevent or get rid of chiggers. In this case you can use RID delousing shampoo to do a body wash with then do a complete soap and scrubbing shower.

No matter how you feel regarding your own health, please do not use this stuff on children.

Heat from a hair drier directed at the source of the itch for a couple of minutes as hot as you can without burning the skin will help to alleviate the itching. Some forms of anti itch creams work for a few hours. Crushed aspirin, moistened and applied to the bite seems to help. It has been reported diaper rash ointment and petroleum jelly also works well to stop the itching.

There are several natural chigger treatments obtainable, not all of which this article has time to address.

I found this article on how to cure chigger bites and control pests in the never ending battle of them in your garden and yard. Having lived in Missouri, the chigger capitol of the world, in my opinion, I know about chiggers and ticks and about almost every other kind of pest there is. OK, I am blowing a bit of air here, but Elisabeth does a good job of informing you on how to control most of those little devils. Well, some of them are not so little.

I hope you enjoy the article and don’t forget stop on back up here and pick up your own Chigger Treatment formula and report before you leave. It will for sure prove to be a remedy for those insect bites.

Pest Control Breakthrough in the Never Ending Battle around Home and Garden

Since I am not only an avid gardener, but also much concerned about the environment, I’m always looking for safe methods to grow plants including pest control in home and garden.

Think about pest control and how it works: We spray chemicals on plants or pests and the bugs die or stop reproducing because the chemicals are toxic to them. Unfortunately, many of these products are also toxic to humans and animals. Reading warning labels on pest control products makes you wonder why anybody would want to risk using them. Exposure to the fumes of these products can result in headaches, feelings of nausea and other discomfort Pesticide use can also results in chronic illness such as allergies, in miscarriages, sterility, cancer and even death.

We not only spray and fumigate in home and garden, we also apply bug killing toxins on our pets and expose them and ourselves non stop to a variety of chemicals to kill fleas, ticks and more.

Over the years, I have had some success with such Earth friendly things as vinegar, diatomaceous earth, garlic, cayenne pepper and Saver Soap in my never ending battle with bugs that invade home and garden. My quest also led me to pure essential oils which repel or kill bugs, yet are actually healthful to people and their pets.

Experimentation lead to the discovery that if the oils are used undiluted, they repel the pests, but if the oils are mixed with water, they often become “insecticides”. In other words, if you like to repel insects from entering your home, you can do that by putting a few drops of the appropriate oil on your fingers or some other applicator and then brush or spray the oil along the line of demarcation such as a windowsill, a door jamb, or other point of entry.

To kill or disable pests, mix a few drops of a specific oil with water in a spray bottle, shake frequently and aim at the pests. For example, to discourage aphids and ants from roses and other plants, generously spray infested plants with the mix. While the pests will leave or fall off, there is no harm done to the plant itself. (Best not to do that in mid day when temperatures go above 100 degrees F.)

You can keep ticks, chiggers and fleas off yourself and your pets when in the outdoors by using the appropriate oils. Either spray on exposed areas or rub on cuffs around neck, wrists and ankles. Avoid using oils near the eyes. Should you get oils in the eyes, dilute with vegetable oil – NOT with water. If an oil should be too strong for the user, experiencing a slight discomfort, apply a little vegetable oil to dilute. For your pets, you can put recommended oils around the neck, legs and along the back, but keep oils from around the eyes and other tender areas.

If an oil should be too strong for the user, apply a little vegetable oil on the area to dilute.

The following oils have been used successfully in the elimination of pests from home and garden:

ANTS: Peppermint, Spearmint

APHIDS: Cedarwood, Hyssop, Peppermint, Spearmint

BEETLES: Peppermint, Thyme

CATERPILLARS: Spearmint, Peppermint

CHIGGERS : Lavender, Lemongrass, Sage, Thyme

CUTWORM: Thyme, Sage Lemongrass, Spearmint, Lavender

FLIES: Lavender, Peppermint, Rosemary, Sage

GNATS: Patchouli, Spearmint

LICE: Cedarwood, Peppermint, Spearmint

MOSQUITOES: Lavender, Lemongrass

MOTHS: Cedarwood, Hyssop, Lavender, Peppermint, Spearmint

PLANT LICE : Peppermint, Spearmint

SLUGS: Cedarwood, Hyssop, Pine

SLUGS: Cedarwood, Hyssop, Pine

SNAILS: Cedarwood: Pine, Patchouli

SPIDERS: Peppermint, Spearmint

TICKS: Lavender, Lemongrass, Sage, Thyme

WEEVILS: Cedarwood, Patchouli, Sandalwood

I like to add these cautions about essential oils: Not all essential oils on the market are safe. Many are diluted with harmful chemicals. Many essential oils are ineffective due to the way they are processed. Please make sure that you use safe, pure, properly distilled oils.

She knows a lot about skin care but does not know as much about chiggers as she might if she had lived with them for years as I have.

After reading come on back up here and check out the Ultimate Chigger Bite Treatment Formula. Thanks for reading.

Many people are not aware of what chigger bites are. This is the best time to educate yourself on what this is and find out the effective cure for chigger bites that are available to you.

What are chiggers?

Chiggers are also known as harvest mites and red bugs. These are very minuscule insects that can only be seen through a magnifying glass or a microscope.

Chigger bites cannot really be felt. However, you will start to itch or your skin will start to inflame and redden hours later. They can live on your body and can move around to look for a place to feed.

They usually “eat” the thin outer layer of your skin. A barrier such as the waistband of jeans or your armpit may trigger them to feed.

Chiggers do not really “bite” in the truest sense of the word. They just fasten themselves on your skin and infuse saliva that contains digestive enzymes that can break down the cells of your skin making it easier for them to drink. The enzymes are the ones that cause the itching.

The enzyme irritates the tissues that surround it and it causes welt to form. The longer the chigger stays in our body and feeds, the bigger the welts form and the longer the itchiness persists.

Chiggers can actually continue to attach itself to your skin and feed for many days. However, you can easily get rid of them when you scrub your skin or take a shower. This is the reason why it is better for people who have stayed outdoors in the wild areas to take a shower immediately to prevent chigger attacks.

Chigger bites are not actually a serious condition. However, many people mistake this condition with chicken pox. You can easily distinguish the difference between the two because chigger usually attacks the waist, ankles, neck, and armpits only.

Another misconception that people make is that chiggers tunnel their way deep into our skin. This is actually just a myth. Chiggers do not have the teeth or sting to tunnel their way into our skin. Although they are small, they are still too big to fit in our pores.

What can help chigger bites?

Many people use nail polish as a cure for chigger bites. However, this is not an advisable treatment. Nail polish contains chemicals that can further aggravate chigger bites.

You can apply topical treatments to help relieve the itchiness. Applying Calamine lotions can also help relieve the itchiness caused by chigger bites. Using oatmeal scrub can also help relieve the itchiness.

In worst cases, Doctors can prescribe you with steroid creams or benadryl to help relieve the itchiness and the skin inflammation.

You can also use a natural remedy called Pure-Heal Gel. This is a natural remedy that can help soothe the skin and can help provide skin support.

This product contains herbal ingredients such as Marigold, Tea Tree, Lavender and Gotu Kola. Marigold is an herbal remedy that is known for its powers in maintaining healthy skin tissues.

Tea Tree penetrates the skin deeply and can heal inflammations on a deeper level. Lavender can soothe aggravated skin effectively and can help maintain healthy skin circulation. Gotu Kola is a natural anti-oxidant that can support the health of the skin.

If you are looking for an easier cure for chigger bites, then a product like Pure-Heal Gel is perfect for you. Relieve itchiness right away with this remedy.

Spring Time Is Chigger Treatment Time

Discover how to treat chigger bites before you get them.

If you think you know everything or nothing that is to be known on how cure chigger bites, read this article to remove your confusion.

Chigger Bite Time is at hand and you best hurry or you will miss the train. Actually this is a train you will want to miss. There is not much time to prepare for this years harvest of the infamous Harvest Mite, known as the Chigger and mite and Red Bug.
Chiggers are now busy laying eggs that will be hatching in a few days. It those larvae that will soon be causing you problems. So now is the time to prepare. Now is the time to stop the Chigger life cycle while you can.
The best chigger remedy is pretty much chigger avoidance. So, how do you avoid them? Chiggers love places that hold moisture like decaying leaves and old rotting woodpiles. Chiggers need to keep hydrated, so they love to hang out in disturbed forest areas that are moist and warm. In short any place that rabbits, mice and rodents like to hang out you may find chiggers.
Keep your lawn mowed short and the vegetation trimmed back from areas where you will travel or hang out. Get rid of all those old leaf piles, NOW. If you can eliminate those early hatchers you will get a long head start on minimizing a chigger problem in your area.
There are also sprays you can use on the yard. A natural solution of soap and water sprayed in your use areas shortly before use helps to keep chiggers at bay. For maximum control do this every week for about three weeks to catch all of the chigger’s life cycles.

Information is infinite and any claim of having all the information on any given topic should always be taken with a pinch of salt. To continue…

…Do not let chiggers quarantine you to your home. Dress for the occasion you can minimize the effect chiggers have on you. Isn’t that what you really want anyway?

  • Wear boots and tuck your pants inside and inside your socks as well. Wear light colored clothes. Chiggers like dark things. Like dark, moist places. Speaking of dark moist places, where is yours? You got it. Arm pits, inside your panties, around your sock tops and around your belt line. I can guarantee that the one place you don’t want these little freeloaders in that dark, moist place inside your panties.

There is also commercial chigger repellents to help to keep chiggers at bay. Some are natural and some are not. It is my personal preference to not put anything on my skin that I would not put in my mouth. Your skin is the biggest organ of the body. It will absorb just about anything that you put on it.

Put those unnatural repellents on your clothes, ONLY. DEET is the most popular repellent and it can last for several hours. There are some natural repellents like citronella but it does not last long.

There are one or two more things you might want to do for chigger remedies.

When you get home from your romps in the woods, get out of your clothes quickly. Do not park on your couch and watch that latest edition of American Idol. Do not sit or lounge on your bed, even briefly. If you do, you just might find your friends waiting patiently for you right where you left them when you do go to bed.

  • Get your clothes into the laundry fast and wash them in hot, hot water for about 30 minutes. Then get yourself into the shower and get your self washed up. You will want to get anything that is hitch hiking washed off immediately if not sooner.

So what do you do if you do get bit and get bit you will? Forget the wives tales of finger nail polish. It just makes for stylish spots on your body. And forget about Clorox i.e. bleach and paint thinner baths and such, if you value your health that is. Antihistamines help with the itch a bit, but don’t count on it too much. DO NOT use such things as turpentine, gasoline, alcohol, ice picks and definitely do not use matches after using gasoline or alcohol.

And do not even think about not scratching. That is just not going to happen.

So, what is this chigger cure? Avoid the places chiggers like to hang out to start with. Then dress accordingly. Wash yourself and your clothes.

Now, go enjoy your summer.

Oh, did I mention don’t forget to treat that car seat you rode home in from your favorite wooded haunt?

As you know, knowledge is not just about reading tips and tricks. It is also about applying what you have learned. This article was all about learning new things about Chigger Treatments and then applying what you have learned.

If you want to discover how to get rid of chiggers and how to cure that awful itch they leave behind you need to keep reading this article.

There is a maxim or cliche about something being the “mother of …” . If you have ever had or ever do get chigger bites you will know what the “mother of all itches” is all about.

Never has anything so small ever been known to cause so much misery for so long as the infamous chigger bite. It is amazing the history books do not contain volumes about the horrible itch chiggers engender.

Getting rid of chiggers is much more difficult than avoiding them. And avoiding them is not all together easy if you are going to leave the confines of your couch and venture into the wild outdoors. If you are prone to bouts of adventurism, then take heed and pay attention. Avoidance is the best chigger treatment known to man or beast.

If you have never seen a chigger, the odds of you ever seeing one is slim to none. They are almost invisible to the human eye. Make no mistake about it though, just because they are small does not mean they are something you will not be reckoning with if you ever get bitten.

It takes several hours after a chigger hops on before he can actually locate a feeding place to fasten on and several more hours before you will realize you have been nailed by the little critter. By then the harm is done and he is long gone. So don’t even think about getting even with him because he will not even be around for vengeance to be extracted.

Unlike a trick, when you become aware of him, you can at least crush the life out of him or burn him at the stake.

Getting rid of chiggers is much easier if you do not get them in the first place. Chiggers like to hang out in the woody shaded areas anywhere it is warm and on the ends of bush leaves and tall grass blades in the meadows and grass lands. They are also pretty sociable so they like to hang out in colonies. So if you find one you may find a colony.

Wear loose fit, tight woven, light colored clothes. Tuck the britches into your boots or your socks and wear long sleeve shirts.

Avert the areas where chiggers hang out and if you do go there, brush off every couple of hours to keep them from finding holes in your garments.

Insect repellents are applicable, but do not leave them on your skin and for heaven’s sake do not put them on children. DEET is the most active ingredient used in nearly all repellents and it is known to cause serious side effects even years down the road. Be safe, not sorry.

If you chose to use DEET apply it only to your clothing and wash it off of yourself as soon as viable if you do get in on you.

Sulfur is available from the drug store. Pat yourself down with it using an old sock with the toe filled with it or a powder puff for ease of use.

Some oils like citronella are natural repellents and are not detrimental when applied to the skin.

Do not utilize scented soaps and deodorants and perfumes before going to the woods.

When returning from areas where chiggers may be, get your clothes in the washer with bleach and soap and lots of very hot water. Dry them on high heat or in bright sunlight.

Shower right away with hot water and soap and use a good scrub sponge to knock anything loose that has found its way into your hide.

When camping plant your tent where the sun shines and clear away all debris before setting it up and let the sun shine on the cleaned area for a few hours first if you can. Sprinkle sulfur around the ground or spray the ground with a solution of dish soap and water first and allow it dry for a While.

Best Chigger Treatment for Houses and Yards

Chigger treatment for home and yards may not be a thing most folks never give much thought to. But the fact of the matter is, many homes and yards are have a chigger problem.

The sad fact is if a house is a dive for chiggers it is probably the occupants very own fault. Not to point fingers, but who lives there?

Maybe before we go to finding a chigger treatment for the house, we should find how chiggers got there in the first place. If the source is not uncovered it will do little good to find a treatment.

Chiggers find there way into the house primarily because someone or something invited them in. That would be you and/or your indoor/outdoor pet.

The last time you came in from the woods did you just come into the house and plunk down that nice comfy couch or the big easy chair? What were you worried about all the time you were out there? Chiggers, right?

Chiggers get knocked off onto furniture and the carpet when outside travelers go indoors.

If there are house plants chiggers may migrate to them and set up camp in them.

Now there are chiggers on the easy chair, on the couch, on the bed, in the carpet and headed for the all of those lovely house plants.

The best chigger treatment for the home is:

#1. Dogs and cats stay out doors unless they have been decontaminated
#2. All clothing is removed in the bathroom immediately if not sooner
#3. All exposed clothing is immediately put into the washing machine to be washed in hot, soapy water

Repeat every week for 3 weeks and before returning plants to house.
#6. All bedding must be laundered in hot soapy water if it has been exposed

The best chigger treatment for the yard.

Keep all grass mowed and the weeds and bushes or brush trimmed back from any pathways. All brush and leave piles must be disposed of.

To help keep chiggers at bay spray the use areas with an insect repellent or spray with the plant spray for three weeks the same as the house plants.
